What is XM?

XM - Exotic Matter - is a force/substance/energy that is all around us (Niantic describe it as "A rare and powerful form of tri-polar energy leaking into our universe from another dimension"). It was discovered by a team of scientists at CERN in Switzerland (I think it was around 2012, but I am not sure). Some people want to use this resource and some oppose to that. The truth is that there is no practical way of preventing humans - individuals and corporations - to use it. So I find it silly to try and stop this.

XM "leeks" into our world in all sorts of ways (or maybe just one way that seems different?) and tend to gather in some spots, called Portals. At many portals there are some kind of human interest. Did we sense the XM and that "guided" us to set our park/statue/monument there? Or maybe the XM is drawn to places with many people? At this point, it is hard to know.

We know that XM can be stored (resonators, power cubes) and used (Exotic matter pulse bursters - XMPs), and we also know that XM influences minds. Is it just human minds? I have no idea, and I wont plan to experience on animals to find out, but I am guessing that yes, even though they are not aware of it, I think it influences them.

a quick word about MU -

Mind Units are the measurement of fields, and basically means amount of people. Sometimes people use XM and MU interchangeably, but that is not the case. XM is the device to influence the Minds under the control field.
